Brett Favre retires, unretires, retires again, asks for release from contract, gets denied..... and so the saga continues.  One thing this whole mess with Favre has reminded me and solidified in me is that, first and foremost, I am a fan of the Green Bay Packers football club.

I am a fan of the history, the 12 world championships, the 21 pro football hall of famers.

I am a fan of Lambeau Field, the frozen tundra, the Ice Bowl, the Snow Bowl.

I am a fan of the community ownership, the big league team in a small market town.

Lombardi, Lambeau, Harlan, "Blood" McNally, The Gravedigger, Sharpe, Starr, McGee, Hornung, Canadeo, White, Hawk, Jennings, this list could go on and on and on.

I will still be there on September 8th, 2008 for the Monday Night Football home opener. If Brett stays retired and they have a ceremony, great I will enjoy it. If Brett is a Packer and plays, or sits on the bench I will support him and cheer him on. If he is not a Packer I'll wish him luck. If he is a Viking I will respect him as a great player but cheer loudly when Kampman and crew drill him into the turf.

But first and foremost I hope the Packers win the game because I am a fan of the Green Bay Packers!
